The Upper East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Lawyer Anthony Namoo has vehemently dismissed claims the party is seeking to rig elections 2020 with the appointment of the new EC Chair, saying ” the EC chair nominee is politically neutral”.
Speaking in an interview with Samuel Mbura, Host of Day Break Upper East on A1 Radio Tuesday, Lawyer Namoo said it is unfortunate the NDC would make such unfounded statements against a noted figure who has tremendously helped in shaping the country.
He said the NDC’s statement against the nomination of the new EC Chair comes as no surprise to him because the party is known for unconstructive criticism of government’s moves. He used the instance of the recent Budget Review and said the opposition party was responsible for creating statements that Taxes will be increased.
President Akufo Addo this week nominated Jean Mensah to boss the Electoral Commission of Ghana. This follows the sacking of Charlotte Osei and her two deputies some weeks ago.
Mrs. Charlotte Osei was given the sack on grounds of “misconduct and incompetence” a statement from the Presidency said at the time.
Just like her removal from office faced stiff resistance from the main opposition party, the nomination of her successor has received equal criticism and fierce rejection from same.
The National Democratic Congress says government is plotting to rig the elections in 2020 with the appointment of Jean Mensa.
