The Upper East Region has many remote communities and this often hinders proper healthcare delivery in the region.

In order to enable healthcare providers in the region to reach the remote communities, UNICEF has donated nine Yamaha AG 100 motor bikes, computers and other equipments at a cost of fifty thousand United States Dollars to the Upper East Regional Health Directorate.

Chief of Health and Nutrition at UNICEF, Victor Ngongalah said the donation was aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery in the region in order to achieve the Millennium Development Goals 4, 5 and 6.

Deputy Director of Health in charge of Administration at the Upper East Regional Health Directorate, Lucio Dery who received the items, commended UNICEF for their efforts towards being a major financier of health delivery in the region. According to Mr. Dery, the Region currently has six hundred and ten motor bikes for health delivery, a great number of which have been donated by UNICEF.

The Upper East Region over the years has achieved a lot in the area of healthcare delivery with the support of the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF). UNICEF has been supporting the region in the areas of maternal and child healthcare delivery, training of community volunteers, community health officers and many others.
