As part of its cooperate social responsibilities, Melcom Care Foundation, a subsidiary of Melcom Group of Companies on Monday handed over a three-unit classroom block with an office and a store to the Saint Peter and Paul Primary school in the Atulbabisi community of Bolgatanga.
The one hundred thousand Ghana cedi project will contribute to enhancing a friendly teaching and learning environment in the school.
Joint Managing Director of Melcom, Mahesh Melwani said the company which is celebrating twenty five years of its existence in Ghana has set up the Melcom Care Foundation to undertake several outreach programs to meet the needs of the needy and vulnerable in the Ghanaian society. Â Mr. Melwani charged the school authorities and pupils to adopt regular maintenance of the classroom block.
Deputy Upper East Regional Minister, Daniel Syme commended the company for their effort in giving back to the society. According to the Deputy Regional Minister, the Upper East Region is going to get six schools from the first batch of the two hundred new senior high schools promised by President John Dramani.
 Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive, Edward Ayiriba Ayagle who was overwhelmed by Melcom’s gesture said the company’s request for space to put up their own edifice is being given all the attention and consideration that it deserves by his office.
Headmistress of the school, Margaret Ayarik thanked Melcom for the classroom block and appealed to the Ghana Education Service and the Municipal Assembly to furnish the classroom block with furniture to enable effective teaching and learning.
