Talensi District Embarks on a Cleanup Exercise Ahead of Ghana’s 57th Independence Anniversary Celebration

As part of preparations towards the celebration of Ghana’s 57th Independence Day Anniversary on the 6th of March, the people of the Talensi District of the Upper East Region last Saturday embarked on a cleanup exercise to rid their surroundings of all filth.

Staff of Talensi District Assembly, workers of Zoomlion, opinion leaders, the police and women groups in the area all took part in the cleanup exercise. This was in line with a directive for all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies across the country to clean up their surroundings towards the 57th Independence Day Anniversary celebration.

District Chief Executive for Talensi, Edward Awunuure who led his people in the cleanup exercise said even though the exercise was geared towards the independence day celebration, the assembly will organize regular cleanup exercises from time to time in order to keep the district clean at all times.

Mr. Awunnure also indicated that the assembly is serious about improving sanitation in the district, the purpose of which the assembly is partnering with the appropriate agencies to enhance proper sanitation in the district. He said the assembly had embarked on afforestation exercises in some parts of district as part of measures to avert any negative climate changes in the future.

Talensi District Operations Supervisors of Zoomlion, John Yin encouraged people to endeavor to always take part in cleanup exercises their areas since good sanitation is to everybody’s benefit.
