The Afaara Royal Clan and acting head of the Asobayire family in the Kologo Traditional Area in the Kassena-Nankana Municipality of the Upper East Region have announced the disenskinment of Naba Clifford Abagna Asobayire, Paramount Chief of the Kologo Traditional Area, following performance of customary rites at the Kologo Royal Palace.
And to ensure a smooth transition, all complaints and issues that requires the attention of the Traditional Authority, would be directed to the acting head of the Asobayire Royal Family, Francis Ayamwine Asobayire, as arrangements are made to select and enskinned a regent very soon by the elders, in line with tradition to quickly start the traditional process to get a new Paramount Chief for the Kologo Traditional Area.
The acting head of the royal family who is also one of the eight kingmakers of the Kologo Traditional Area, said all the families that form the royal family of Kologo have committed themselves to ensuring that a new Paramount Chief is enskinned as early as possible to lead the development of the area.
In announcing the royal family’s decision to the media, the acting head of the Asobayire family, Francis Ayamwine Asobayire said Naba Clifford Asobayire had on many occasions disrespected the elders of the royal family and refused to attend to their calls to discuss issues that affect the royal skin and the entire Kologo Traditional Area.
The acting family head accused Naba Clifford Asobayire of going against tradition and the laws of the Republic of Ghana and thereby dragging the name of the royal skin and family into disrepute.
“I speak with heavy heart as the head of our family; we did not wish to get to this stage. The family had tried to get him to change his ways and yet, he refused to attend all the family meetings that he was invited to.”
According to Francis Ayamwine Asobayire, the recent conviction of Naba Clifford Asobayire by a District Magistrate in Navrongo, presided over by His Worship Issah Abdul-Wahab is enough reason to disenskin him.
“Even the laws of Ghana prohibit a convicted person from becoming a chief. Per our tradition, a chief should be of good morals, one that can hold everyone together and unite the people. Here is the case the former chief could not even unite the royal family. He could not even work with all the kingmakers. He was still on probation; he had not properly been confined and that is why he could not wear the red long hat of authority, as a paramount chief. He is not in good terms with the traditional people who are supposed to confine him for his confirmation. He could not even finish his probation period. From today Sunday, November 3, Naba Clifford Abagna Asobayire is no longer the Paramount Chief of the Kologo Traditional Area and can no longer hold himself in that position nor represent the traditional area in the capacity of a paramount chief.”
The acting head of the royal family hinted that letters will be written and distributed to various chiefs and paramouncies in the Upper East Region to announce the disenskinment of Naba Clifford Abagna Asobayire.
He has however assured the people of the Kologo Traditional Area that a new Paramount Chief will be selected and introduced in three months from November 2019.
Meanwhile efforts to get Naba Clifford Abagna Asobayire to talk about the issue on phone proved futile. He only said on phone that the information about his disenskinment was fake.
