Anti-corruption crusader Vitus Azeem has described government  directive to  the Auditor-General Denial Yao Demelevo to proceed on accumulated leave has a ‘dent’ on the state and government’s fight against corruption.

According to him, many anti-corruption crusaders are disappointed in President Nana Addo’s decision to get out Mr. Yao Demelevo whose administration has saved the state millions of cedis, which otherwise would have gone into the pockets of undeserving individuals  through corruption.

Speaking on A1radio, Day Break Upper East program, Mr. Virtus Azeem explained that, any employee who decides not to take his or her annual leave forfeits it  thus there exist no accumulated leave for Mr. Demelevo to proceed on.

He further described Yao Demelevo’s accumulated leave directive as an affront to the fight against corruption and an attempt to ‘clear’ alleged corrupt persons standing trial.

“It has a negative impression on the image of government and the state and many Ghanaians who voted for the NPP because of their anti-corruption campaign message in 2016 will be disappointed, so it is an unfortunate situation that Nana Addo is not living by his words.

“We(anti-corruption crusaders) are actually not happy with what has happened as anti-corruption crusaders because of  the effect on government and the attempt to protect government purse, more especially just when Demelevo had left office, the acting Auditor-General has written to clear  the senior minister Yaw Osafo Marfo on what Demelevo was dealing with in court”.

Mr. Azeem wandered why President Nana Addo will direct Mr. Demelevo to proceed on accumulated leave when he was prosecuting a number of allege corruption cases aimed at protecting state purse “when you push him out pre-maturely then definitely you are not allowing the law to take its course”.

He hinted that, the coalition of anti-corruption crusaders will soon issue a statement on Mr. Yao Demelevo’s accumulated leave, adding that, it was a bad deal.
