Bolgatanga Goodwill Rotary Club supports PWDs to fight Covid-19

Goodwill Rotary Club in collaboration with Rotary International has donated 400 pieces of nose masks to Persons with Disabilities in the Upper East Region.

The gesture seeks to aid persons with disabilities stem the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country.

Speaking to A1 NEWS, President of Bolgatanga Goodwill Rotary Club, Sombare Simon said, the humanitarian group observed that persons with disabilities were vulnerable and more prone to the pandemic thus their support.

“Everybody needs nose masks at the moment; however, we thought that these people will need it most because most of them are not working.

Most of them don’t even have the strength to get there if someone is distributing nose masks. So we thought that, giving it to any other person will not be beneficial as giving it to these people because they are part of the society”.

Mr. Sombare admonished persons with disabilities in the region to adhere to the Covid-19 protocols.

The group also donated 100 nose masks to the Dagweo community in the Bolgatanga municipality.

On her part, Mrs. Faustina Atampiisi who spoke on behalf of PWDs in the region, commended the group for their kind gesture and appealed to other philanthropist and NGOs to emulate same in supporting PWDs in the wake of COVID-19.

Rotary is an international service organization whose core purpose is to bring together business and professional leaders in order to provide humanitarian service and advance goodwill and peace around the world.

Rotary is represented by rotary clubs all over the world with the Upper East region having the Bolgatanga Goodwill Rotary Club.

With support from rotary clubs all over the world, the Bolgatanga Goodwill Rotary Club last year, drilled and handed over about 32 boreholes and 246 micro flush toilets projects.

The Apart from that, Bolgatanga Goodwill Rotary Club president, Sombare Simon added the non-political and non-religious organization with support from a rotary club in Canada, has successfully executed an irrigation project of about 5 acres of land space at Bawiu, a suburb of Navrongo.
