Security Analyst, Dr. Franklin Kwesi Biney, has admonished law enforcement agencies to retrieve the gun used by the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East and Minister for Special Development Initiatives,  Mavis Hawa Koomson in a shooting incident at a registration centre in the Central Region.

Mrs. Koomson admitted to have fired a warning shot to disperse a crowd alleged to have planned an attack on her entourage at a registration center.

She further justified that, her action was in self-defense as her police escort was not with her at the time of the incident.

But speaking on A1 Radio’s Daybreak Upper East, Dr. Biney, condemned Mrs. Koomson’s actions and urged the police to use the gun control laws to crack the whip on such characters to serve as deterrent.

He implored the security agencies to use the gun control laws in retrieving Mrs. Koomson’s gun and reorient her on when and how to use guns.

“The police have to either call her and possibly collect the gun or reorient her on how to use the gun because a person of her caliber knowing the gun control laws should not be doing. For today I think all politicians should be oriented on how to use guns in order to control them.

The point we should all know is that the politician will one day go but Ghana will continue to be there so law enforcers should not allow them to misbehavior. In fact, the security agencies must look into the matter and make sure that cases like this will not repeated”.

Dr. Biney, bemoaned the actions of Mrs. Koomson adding that, the legislator ought to have known better.

“Hawa Koomson should know better and be able to tell when to use a gun and when not to use it. I believe strongly that the security agencies should take the matter up in accordance with the laws of Ghana.

It was a very wrong demonstration of a character of such caliber, because, if it was to be any issue at all at the registration center, she should have called the police and not with a move of shooting warning shot. What if, by her mistake, her next shot was targeting an innocent person?”

Dr. Biney hinted that, the country could be sitting on a time-bomb if the security agencies do not nip illicit guns in the bud.

“As far back in 2012, data shows how illicit guns were ushered into the country which now is becoming a threat to human lives. In fact, there are a lot of guns that are in the custody of many people in this country which if one thinks about it becomes a threat and disturbing to all and sundry.

Should in case there is noise or anything relating to misunderstanding you will see everyone going to where he or she has hidden the gun to bring it out. This to me is wrong and needs law enforcers to up on their games”.
