Flagbearer hopeful of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Mr. Samson Asaki Awingobit, says, the resignation of founding member of the party and former presidential candidate Dr. Edward Mahama was unfortunate.

According to him, the manner in which Dr. Mahama resigned could have different meanings to it and expected him to have resigned in an honorable manner.

Dr. Edward Mahama, who has been a Presidential candidate of the People’s National Convention (PNC) since 1996 on Monday 17th August 2020, officially resigned from the People’s National Convention(PNC).

Even though reasons for Dr. Mahama’s resignation is unknown, he said, he remained committed to the party and its ideologies.

But speaking on A1 Radio’s Reporters Visit, Mr. Awingobit , said, Dr. Mahama’s resignation came to party executives as a surprise.

“Looking at his age, looking at what he has done for the party; he has done tremendously well for the party and if he wanted to retire from the party it should have been a colorful ceremony, a remarkable one of course but how he did it, is surprising to me.

It was honorable enough and could have different meanings to it. I was thinking that, our supposed executives’ zoom meeting which is yet on the pipeline could have been a perfect fit for him to inform us of his resignation but we wish him well.”

He added that “The way he announces it last night to me, I was not happy because he did it as if, he was angry with the party and its members.”

“I strongly believed from day one that he will not contest this coming election due to his current position he had with the New Patriotic Party because if he was, last year or the middle of this year, he could have resigned from his position as the ambassador at large but he did not.

…That made me doubt his coming back, but be it as it may, I would have loved that Dr. Mahama could have stayed to nature us because he is a statement to the party and the country. In fact, he discovered me and led me to contest the Ashiama constituency in 2008 as a Member of Parliament and which I lost”.

He, therefore, encouraged members of the party to be focused and work within the party’s ethics as the future is bright for them and the party.
