Ahead of the 2020 general elections, the Upper East Regional Chapter of Zongo for New Patriotic Party(NPP) has begun its door to door campaign aimed at retaining the party in power.

The chapter, according to its members target at winning nine(9) parliamentary seats in the 15 constituencies in the region.

Speaking at a cleanup exercise organized by the NPP youth group in Bolgatanga, Public Relations Officer, Osama Bashiru, explained that, the youth were ready to wrestle power for the NPP based on the numerous benefits they have received from the government.

“The NPP government has brought a lot of developments to our communities, especially in the Zongo areas. In the region, we are blessed with, an AstroTurf facility that is currently undergoing construction in Bolgatanga, computer labs have been provided to each Zongo in the region, youth empowerment programs, and many more that I can’t mention, all geared towards youth empowerment.

So, for us to also show our contributions to the party, we deemed it necessary to do door to door campaign.”

Mr. Bashir, added that, the reason for the cleanup exercise was to demonstrate that, the Zongo communities were not dirty places as usually presumed by others.

“We also want to send a signal to the National Democratic Congress that we in the Zongo have grown beyond sugar and rice, and are ready for development.

As you can see, the Zongo development fund has come to equip we the people of Zongo and through that 22 acres of land was purchased as burial grounds for the Muslim community. What more can we say, if not to lace our boots to wrestle power for NPP”.

The Bolgatanga Central Constituency Chairman, Alhaji Alhassan Amaliba, also explained that, due to the implementation of the Free Senior High School policy which the Zongo children were not exempted will make parents, as well as the students, vote for the party hence was optimistic of winning nine Parliamentary seats in the region.

The impressions among people especially some political parties are usually that Zongo people are violent and can only do the violent crime. But those impressions are over because the empowerment programs that the NPP government has provided for the Zongo communities across the country are numerous.

These programs have helped shaped many youths lives and contributed to the growth of the communities. So, there is nothing we can do but pay our loyalties to the NPP.”
