Ghana’s next parliament will see a new face representing the Nadowli Kaleo Constituency in the Upper West Region.

A Health Administrator, Sumah Anthony Mwinkaara, takes over from Alban Kingsford Sumani Bagbin, Ghana’s longest serving Member of Parliament (MP) who has decided to retire from parliament after 28 successive years.

Mr. Mwinkaara in the just ended December election retained the seat for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) with 23,961 out of the 36,090 valid votes cast to beat his closest contender Elvis Banoemuleng Botah of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who polled 7,664 votes.

Bernard Mornah of the People’s National Convention came third with 4,465 votes.

Mr. Mwinkaara earlier defeated 7 aspirants in what was described as one of the toughest NDC parliamentary primaries.

He joins a tall list of new faces that will represent their constituents in the 8th parliament of the 4th Republic.

Some other faces to appear in the next parliament include Energy Minister, John Peter Amewu, who made history as the first NPP candidate to win the Hohoe seat in the Volta Region.

Deputy Chief of Staff, Samuel Abu Jinapor is also heading to parliament following the defeat of the incumbent MP for Yapei-Kusawgu Constituency, Adam Mutawakilu.

Mohammed Adamu Ramadan of the NDC unseated NPP’s Yaw Boaben Asamoa to represent constituents of Adenta; and Dzifa Gomashie, a Deputy Minister for Tourism under the erstwhile Mahama government replaces Fiifi Kwetey who did not seek re-election in this year’s polls.
