Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Obiri Boahen, has stated that Former President John Dramani Mahama’s challenge of the 2020 election results has collapsed and nothing can resurrect it.

“I am saying this authoritatively- without the slightest reservation. As far as the law is concerned, as far as the procedure is concerned, the very moment John Mahama decided not to file a witness statement, the very moment he decided not to mount the witness box, the very moment Mahama decided not to give the power of attorney to a third person, that was the very moment his case collapsed. And no amount of effort can resurrect it.” Mr. Boahen said in an interview on A1 Radio’s Daybreak Upper East program on Tuesday.

The outspoken lawyer continued that the conduct of the Petitioner and his legal team in the hearing of the case at the Supreme Court “Is extremely odd and unheard off. It will go down in the Guinness Book of Record that a serious legal matter as this, petitioner has told the world he has closed his case, the petitioner never testified, he never filed a witness statement, he never gave power of attorney to another person, he never mounted the witness box to testify, he called witnesses- the 1st Respondent says I’m making submission of new case; the 2nd respondent did same. Then the petitioner comes back to say allow me to open my case again.

We need to be serious. Which society in this world will encourage that? What kind of strange conduct is that? Which part of this world will you file a subpoena that the very person you have sued should come and testify in support of your case? When you go to court, you succeed on the strength of your case; you don’t succeed on the weakness of the respondent or defendant’s case.”
