Upper East NDC Elects Party Executives

Delegates of governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Upper East Region on Thursday elected Alhaji Bolnaba Mumuni as Regional Chairman of the Party. Alhaji Bolnaba who was the party’s chairman until the Thursday conference was contested by Alhaji Osman Akansum Alem. . Alhaji Bolnaba Mumuni was retained chairman of the party in the region at the end of the elections. Alhahi Bolnaba obtained 104 votes to beat his contender Alhaji Osman Akansum Alem who obtained 64 votes. Alhaji Bolnaba who beat his colleague Alhaji with 40 votes is going for another four years in his third tenure as regional chairman of the party in the Upper East Region

About 169 delegates cast their votes to elect regional executives of the party for the next four years. Delegates of the regional general conference include constituency executives, district chief executives, sitting ministers who hail from the region, and founding members of the party in the region. In all, 31 people contested for 10 positions excluding four other positions which was contested a week earlier before the general elections.

The election which was scheduled to start at 9am however started as late as 1pm, ended peacefully.

Abubakari Atongo Salifu obtained 119 votes to become the party’s regional Vice Chairman for the next four years beating his three contenders Veronica Lamisi Seidu who pulled 82 votes, Akanyele Nsobuno William 76 votes while Issah Seidu Bogobiri managed to obtain 46 votes. Akamugri Donatus obtained 112 votes to retain his position as Secretary.

Two communicators of the party, Abiola Thomas Anyagri and Danka John Paul had it tough in the Deputy Secretary position. At the end of the election, Abiola had 90 votes to become the party’s Deputy Secretary while Danka too obtained 78 votes. Alhaji Issah Mumuni had 59 votes retaining his seat as Treasurer and Atanga Gilbert too had 110 votes to deputized Alhaji Issah. Incumbent Organizer before the election Baba Kumasi was retained with 111 votes and Issaka Haruna obtained 110 votes to become the party’s Deputy Organizer for the next four years.

Bernard Boayerik Bougzor was retained propaganda Secretary and Anyiam Kenkeni Aloysius elected Deputy Progander Secretary. The newly elected executives of the party were sworn into offices. Before the party chairman could give his acceptance speech, it was tough for Dominic Azimbe Member of Parliament for Garu-Tempane who doubles chairman of the Upper East Caucus in Parliament to calm down jubilant crowds filled the Catholic Social Center blowing vuvuzelas and whistles.

Finally, Alhaji Bolnaba Mumuni was given an opportunity to address members of the NDC party. Alhaji Bolnaba thanked delegates for giving him the nod to lead the party in the region for the next four years. He therefore called for unity in the party in order to win the December 2016 general elections. The election was conducted by the Electoral Commission.

  1. bolnaba is realy the people man,he is undefeatable more grace to his elbow…………………………………..he speaks of peace and unity everytime when speaking and i qoute from his speech ” lets leave the devide that we are having and come together and make sure ndc will come back to power 2016”.
