After sitting on the 2020 election petition for almost three months, the Supreme Court of Ghana on March 4 dismissed the petition as having no merit.

The Presidential Candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress for the 2020 elections, former President John Dramani Mahama dragged the Electoral Commission and President Akufo-Addo to court, challenging the validity of the December 7 election results.

He has been praying the court to nullify the declaration and to cause a re-run between himself and President Akufo-Addo.

But delivering its final verdict of the case on Thursday March 4, 2021, the 7-member panel of justices of the apex court, dismissed the petition, on grounds that the petitioner could not adduce ample evidence that the election results as declared by the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensah, were not valid.

Reading the ruling of the court, Chief Justice Anin Yeboah also said the petitioner did not satisfy all five issues outlined by the court to determine.
