President Akufo-Addo donates GH¢57, 000 to a kidney patient from Navrongo

His Excellency, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has donated GH¢57, 000 to Robert Awiah Ada, a native of Navrongo in the Kassena-Nankana Municipal to undergo a kidney transplant in India.


The amount, in a cheque valued at $10, 000 was presented to the family by the Upper East Regional Minister, Stephen Yakubu on Friday.


Mr. Ada who has been battling with a kidney infection wrote a letter to the presidency through the Kassena-Nankana Municipal Assembly for support to enable him to go for the surgery.


The Kassena-Nankana Municipal Chief Executive, Wiliam Aduum stated that the letter was then sent to the Office of the President through the Upper East Regional Coordinating Council (RCC).


According to Mr. Aduum, the amount was granted around February 2021 from the presidency and the processes were made for the money to be released to the patient.


The Upper East Regional Minister who presented the cheque to the family in his office on Friday thanked the president for the kind support extended to the patient.


“As a representative of the president Nana Addo, it shows very clearly that even as an individual the president is always ready to help and to do something no matter how little it is and I think that shows the compassion he has about helping every single Ghanaian to have a better life.”

Mr. Yakubu used the occasion to admonish the public to constantly go for health check-ups to know their health status to avert dire health conditions.


“What I have realized is that sometimes these things come because we are poor people. Instead of checking ourselves, we don’t. It is not that we don’t want to, sometimes it is because we don’t have money to do it. Secondly, the facilities may not be there in the first place.”


The minister pledged to join forces with all the Municipal and District Chief Executives in the region to sensitize residents on the need to cultivate a habit of a regular medical check-ups.


Receiving the cheque on behalf of the patient, Robert Awiah Ada, the Chief Executive Officer of Bencyn Pharmacy, Benjamin Anyana thanked the president, Nana Akufo Addo through the initiation of the regional minister and the MCE for the support.
