The paramount chief of the Talensi traditional area Naab Kugbil Namalteng has commended Bolgatanga based radio station A1 Radio for its show of maturity and excellence in radio broadcast in the region.

The paramount chief uttered the kind words when management of the station paid a courtesy call on him at his palace in Tongo on Wednesday. In a short interaction with management of A1 Radio, Tongorana Naab Kugbil Namalteng said the media has an incontrovertibly strong influence on the development of the region and on the lives of the people. He therefore praised the radio station for taking the lead in showing maturity in its line of work.

He however bemoaned the increasing rate of porosity and falling standards of journalism in situations where false reports are churned out that goes a long way to dent the hard earned reputation of many in responsible positions.

“Journalism is for development and not to report things that will tarnish the image of another person. So it is important that when you are reporting make sure you get your facts right and don’t report anything that will put you into trouble” he said.

He also expressed worry and sadness over a false media publication that sort to dent his image as a paramount chief of the Talensi traditional area after his enskinment and hinted that he has sued to court a regional correspondent of the said media house over the publication. He therefore called on journalists to do due diligence before publication.
