Some Youth and Executives of the ruling National Democratic Congress have locked up the offices of the District Assembly in Nabdam in the Upper East Region.

According to them, major positions both at the civil service level and political appointments have eluded indigenes of the Nabdam area and this is unfair.

James Yidaan, the constituency communications director of the National Democratic Congress who confirmed the issue to Albert Azongo on A1 Radio’s Daybreak Upper East said they have exhausted all avenues but the issue of unemployment have not been resolved hence their decision to lock up the office of the District Assembly.

He explained that in 2012 Hon. Mahama Ayariga asked them to stop complaining of unemployment because establishing the District Assembly was going to resolve that problem but since the District Assembly was established none of their members have been employed.

“When Mahama Ayariga came here in 2012 he told us not to complain about unemployment because establishing the District Assembly was going to cater for that problem. The District Assembly has been established but they have failed to employ any of us.”

He mentioned that the straw that broke the camel’s back was the appointment of someone from Bongo to head GYEEDA in the Nabdam constituency.

He threatened that until their needs are addressed by the party, the District Assembly office will be locked.

Meanwhile the constituency secretary for the country’s largest opposition party Maxwel Wooma who spoke to A1 Radio said he was not amazed at what the NDC was doing in the constituency.

He added that the decision to lock up the assembly offices is symptomatic of the NDC and that the party is known best for such incidents.
