Bongo District Gets First Share of President’s 200 Community SHS

Bongo District in the Upper East Region has had its first share of President John Dramani Mahama’s 200 Community Senior High School project. The school when fully completed within the 18 months stipulated period will serve as Azeem-Namoo Senior High Technical Institute.

At a ground breaking ceremony to cut sod for the construction of the project, District Chief Executive for Bongo District, Alexis Adugdaa Ayamdor said the construction of the E-style facility of the project when completed will enable more Junior High School graduates in the district access to secondary education.

Mr. Ayamdor who described the president as a listening president said education is a top most priority of the government hence the need to construct one of the schools in the district.

The project when completed will comprise of classrooms, administration block, a library and modern sports arena.  Aside from the construction of the community SHS, the DCE stated that construction of dining hall and dormitories are ongoing at the new campus for Azeem Namoo Senior High Technical Institute.

According to him “the government is spending about Ghc 5.6 million to build various educational infrastructures in the district”.

Azeem-Namoo Senior High Technical Institute until it was absorbed by government was set up and managed by the chiefs and people of the community. Mr. Ayamdor commended the chiefs and people of Azeem-Namoo for leasing the 87.61 acres of land for the construction of the community SHS.

While thanking the president for establishing one of the community SHS in the district, the DCE appealed to government to absorb the many SHSs established by community members in the district.

Adu Larbi, Head of Planning Unit of Ghana Education Service Headquarters on behalf of the Minister of Education said the project is in fulfillment of the president’s promise to build 200 community SHS across the country.

He entreated the constructor to provide jobs for the people of the area by engaging local artisans in their works.

Students of Azeem-Namoo in an exclusive interview said they are always at the mercy of the weather when the rain sets due to the lack of dormitories to accommodate them. The students added that as a result of the school lacking teaching and learning amenities, academic performance has been hampered. However with the absorption of the school by government and the construction of the community SHS in replacement, the students hope teaching and learning will be affective.

The construction of the facility is awarded to Samrak construction limited based in Bolgatanga
