Member of Progressive People’s Party (PPP) communication team in the Upper East Region, Starley Baba Ayinenongma has described the construction of an ultra modern office for the National Democratic Congress in Bolgatanga East Constituency as a misplaced priority.

According to him, many communities in the newly created constituency lack portable drinking water a situation that affects the lives of people there. A situation which he thinks could have been better if monies for the project had been channel to solve the water situation in the constituency.

He added that the constituency has no library and an Information Communication Technology (ICT) center, a situation Mr. Baba thinks would have been better if the party office served that purpose. The PPP communicator said this during a political program on A1 Radio dubbed ‘Zina Yela’.

The NDC last year commenced construction of a party office complex at Dulugu in the Bolgatanga East Constituency. Member of Parliament for the constituency Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine during the sod cutting ceremony to commence the construction said the project is in fulfillment of a campaign promise he made to party delegates during the primaries in August 2012.The Ghc 350,000.00 estimated cost of the office complex which has 5 offices and a conference room is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2015.

However Mr. Baba said resources for the project could have been better channeled to providing social amenities for the constituents. He added that the office complex which will only help in the running of the party activities in the constituency will rather worsen the poverty level of the many people who cannot afford to renew their health insurance premium.

Mr. Baba stated that the office complex can only provide jobs for the party’s ‘foot soldiers’ but not the teaming unemployed youth in the constituency. He has therefore appealed to the MP and the party executives in the Bolgatanga East Constituency to reconsider their decision and convert the project to either a library or an ICT center.
