The Kologo Youth Association (KOYA) in the Kassena-Nankana Municipality has chalked tremendous achievement, especially in the area of education since its inception a year ago.

Aside from promoting the spirit of community voluntarism, KOYA has sensitized the youth of Kologo on the need to uphold peace and unity among themselves through sports, games, music, and dance.

Public Relations Officer of KOYA, Vitus Azinaba stated that the youth in their capacity roofed two classroom blocks at a cost of Ghc7, 852.00. The classroom blocks were built for almost a decade by the PTA of Kologu Junior High School.

This was made known during the maiden Kologo Youth celebration held in the Kologo community. The PRO in his speech added that the association “are in the process of plastering, flooring and raising marker boards for the two-classroom blocks at Kologu Junior High School.”

The Kologo Youth Association appealed to benevolent organizations, NGOs, philanthropists to assist the association to complete the Zuo Junior High School.

“It is worrying to realize that Zuo Junior High School that has been in existence for the past four years has no single classroom block for the children to sit and study. We the youth have taken it upon ourselves to ensure we clad pavilions for the children before the rains set in. We have raised pillars and have secured 60 pieces of wood”, the PRO of KOYA indicated.

The Paramount Chief of the Kologo Traditional Area, Naba Clifford Asobayire commended the youth of the community for their spirit of voluntarism which he said would aid in the development of the community.

He admonished the youth to eschew all forms of social vices such as alcoholism, illicit sex, drug addiction which he said could jeopardize their future.

Naba Asobayire who said he lobbied for the extension of electricity to some parts of the community added that he intends to lobby further for the provision of potable drinking water for the community members.

Due to the lack of security personnel in the community, there have been some occurrences of armed robbery incidents in the community.

On the 28th of February, 2021, two suspected armed robbers who attacked a motorbike rider who was returning home from Biu, a nearby community, were lynched at Kologo. A locally manufactured pistol and daggers were retrieved in the bodies.

In April 2021 3 other suspected thieves were rescued from being lynched. The suspects had stolen a bull in the community, killed it, and in an attempt to transport it in a tricycle out of the community. Luck however eluded them when the youth of Kologo apprehended them and subjected the 3 to severe beatings. But the chief of Kologo rescued them from being killed.

Aside from these incidents, there have been recorded attacks on residents of Kologo by suspected criminals.

It is against this backdrop that Naba Clifford Asobayire during the maiden Kologo Youth celebration reiterated his call on the need for the construction of a police post in the community to fight the continuous robbery activities.
