The District Chief Executive for the Nabdam District, Vivian Anafo, has said the black flies that have invaded her district are just a menace but they do not carry the oncho-causing parasite.
In an interview with a1radioonline.com the District Chief Executive said the National oncho secretariat declared the district an oncho free zone some years ago after several spraying of the area. She however acknowledged that, although the insects are not a health threat to the people, its presence affects social and economic activities in the area and other towns along the Red Volta and that there was the need to annihilate its presence.
She also called on District Chief Executives in other areas affected by the menace to come together to fight the irritating flies to enable farmers go on with their activities.
Residents of the Nabdam district have been battling black flies invasion since the rainy season commenced and this has affected the social and economic lives of the people.
