Solace Awuni, an author who doubles as an ICT teacher with Ghana Education Service at St. Charles ICT Center Bolga, has written what is being described as an ‘epic literary piece’ that follows the life of a young girl who seeks to better the lives of underprivileged people through philanthropy. The book is titled ‘Nancy, the tale of a kindhearted girl’.
‘Nancy, the tale of a kindhearted girl’ is set in a community in the Bongo District of the Upper East Region. Miss Awuni is a graduate of the University of Cape Coast with a Diploma in Psychology Education and a Bachelor’s Degree in Educational Foundations with English language as a minor.
The story is the first published work of the author. Subsequently, Miss Awuni is expected to release, “The lost uncle”, “Folktales of Frafras” and “Sabotage”.
Early life of Author
Solace Awuni was born in Bolgatanga in the 90s, she grew up on the campus of Bolgatanga Girls Senior High School where her father was a French teacher and later on made the first Upper East Regional Director of French Education and allocated an office and accommodation on the campus and her mother a headmistress of Presbyterian Junior high school Bolgatanga. She is the last born of 5 children. She is an indigene of Bongo “Anafobisi” in the Upper East Region of Ghana with both parents from Bongo, her father hails from Bongo “Anafobisi” and her mother from Bongo “bogorogo”.
Solace Awuni was the girls’ prefect of her primary school and the library prefect in her Junior High School where she was part of a children’s program on URA Radio 89.7fm called “Our voices”.
She comes from a lineage of artists and won an art award for children in her Junior High School.
She completed her secondary education at St Francis Girls of Assisi Senior High School Jirapa where she completed with a certificate in General arts with literature as an elective.
Solace Awuni as well studied Intergraded Community Development Studies for one year at the University for Development Studies, Wa Campus, but however left UDS to the University of Cape Coast to pursue a course in a different path.
She graduated from the University of Cape Coast with a Diploma in Psychology Education and a Bachelor’s Degree in Educational foundations with English language as a minor.
Solace Awuni got her inspiration from her father Mr. Alfred Awuni Azure who used to tell her Shakespearean tales and her mother Mrs. Abuto Joana Azure who used to borrow books from her school library for her to read when she was still a child and also from renowned writers like Chinua Achebe, Ola Rotimi, Chimamanda Ngozie Adichie, William Shakespeare etc.
