The Deputy General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Peter Otokunor has explained that should the opportunity to serve as the General Secretary of the NDC present itself, he will gladly avail himself for consideration.

Mr. Otokunor who spoke on the Day Break Upper East show explained that he had over the years, worked tirelessly for the party and has garnered so much experience that it will make him the perfect replacement for the current General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah affectionately referred to as General Mosquito.

He said the relationship between himself and the current General Secretary along with the confidence reposed in him by Mr. Nketiah would make the transition a seamless one.

Mr. Otokunor insisted that the had not stated that he would be contesting for the slot of the General Secretary. He said comments around the General Secretary position had arisen after the stellar work he’s done as Deputy General Secretary was noticed by followers and sympathizers of the party; with many mulling the idea of him [Peter Otokunor] replacing General Mosquito.

“I would not be derelict on such calls because it is a call to service and anything that calls me to serve to people, I am in 100 per cent. I think that the office of the General Secretary is a very crucial one as it actually anchors the fortunes of the party and it actually anchors the prospect of the country”.

“Obviously, when there is an opportunity for a new leader to be selected and the General [General Mosquito] is not available, obviously, I think that I’m in the best position in experience, training, ability, and capacity to take over from the General. So when such calls came, I said, why not? I mean, be that as it may, the kind of confidence the General has reposed in me and the kind of interest he has shown in my development, I think that I can’t let him down,” he added.

Mr. Otokunor also sent a word of caution to party supporters as well as aspirants to tread carefully as the party readies itself for the reorganisation process.

Mr. Otokunor who spoke on Daybreak Upper East Show on A1 said, if the little internal wrangling that may arise as a result of the party’s reorganisation is not handled properly, the party risks being torn apart ahead of the 2024 election.
