The Member of Parliament for the Wa West Constituency, Peter Lanchene Toobu in the Upper West Region has called out critics of the United States Department’s report on Ghana’s Human Rights Practices for 2021.

The report, amongst other things, suggested that some public officials in Ghana are practising corruption with impunity and there is a rejuvenated suppression of human rights and free speech.

According to Mr. Toobu, there was nothing in that U.S report that is not true about the current situation in Ghana. Therefore, instead of the government pouring its frustrations on the researcher, it should analyze the report and make the necessary amends.

Mr. Toobu, speaking on the Day Break Upper East Show on A1 Radio, explained that, the U.S only presented whatever has happened in the country in recent times.

“What the U.S embassy has done is to just collate what has happened in Ghana over a period of time and report on it. There Is nothing in that report that had not happened.”

“Whether they give it the right interpretation or not, the facts remain that, if you go to Techiman South, some people were shot and killed by people in uniform, if you go to Ejura, Kaaka was killed, and when the state responded, two more people died,” he added.

He stressed, “if you talk about the media front, you can see what is happening, the arrests the media themselves are crying, the fourth estate of the realm is troubled”.

The legislator advised that if the government is incensed by the report, then,  it should start doing things right.
