A young man, believed to be in his 20s, has been beaten to death. His body was then dumped in between the Abilba No. 2 Junior High School and the Awugya Primary School along the library road in Bolgatanga.
According to residents in the area, they suspect the incident happened sometime last night but the people who took the action are currently unknown.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service who conveyed the dead body to the regional hospital for preservation, identification and collection by the family members, confirmed that it was lynching that resulted in his death. The police, thus, admonished the public to desist from acts of instant justice because it was against the law.
The Bolgatanga Municipal Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Richard Salifu Anaba, who led the police team to the place said, any suspected thief should be reported to the police.
“After examining the body we can see that they were cutlass wounds and whatever. We can conclude that he is likely to be or he was suspected to be an armed robbery hence the lynching to death.”
“Even with what we have seen, it means they even lynched him somewhere, killed him and came and dump him here. If this was the place where they killed him, the place would have been disturbed. We don’t encourage instant justice or lynching to death. We are always saying that, if there are situations like that just hand him over to the police to investigate,” he told the media.
Residents and passersby were not willing to report the incident to police personnel because of the long processes they will go through after reporting.
But Chief Superintendent Salifu Anaba has urged the public not to hesitate to report lynching cases to the police because the process is not difficult and it will help the police to do their work.
