The Member of Parliament for the Bunkprugu – Nankpanduri constituency in the North East Region, Abednego Bandim has expressed concern with regard to the current terrorist attacks that have engulfed some parts of neighbouring Togo.

He said there is some level of tension amongst residents in his constituency following the current security development because the North East Region shares a border with the terrorism-stricken Togo.

The Lawmaker however believes the security personnel stationed at the various borders in the North East Region will ensure that residents are safe to continue to go on with their activities.

“There is some amount of tension because if you saw videos of what they did in Togo and you hear that they are getting closer, you will be concerned and so there is some tension but of course, the security agencies are also up and doing,” he revealed to A1 News’ Kennedy Zongbil.

He added that “I am not surprised that these people have extended their activities trying to enter our country using the North-East border with Togo, so I am not surprised at all. What we need to do is tighten up our security. I am working with the security on the ground. They are very much prepared and those characters would be arrested if they ever entered into the constituency.”

He, therefore, called on the National Security Ministry to deploy more security apparatus to man the many unapproved borders dotted across the region to help beef up security.

Earlier, Stephen Yakubu, the Upper East Regional Minister has given the firm assurance that the Upper East Region is safe. He said residents could conduct their usual activities without fear of imminent attacks or subjugation by any terrorist groups.

It would be recalled that the Ministry of National Security stated that it had gathered intelligence that indicated the suspicious movement of a group of persons along a mountainous area that borders Bunkpurugu/Nankpanduri District in the North East Region and Garu District in the Upper East Region.
