Four teacher unions in the country have declared an indefinite strike effective today, 4th July, 2022.

The unions are the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), National Association of Graduate Teachers(NAGRAT), Coalition of Concerned Teachers Ghana(CCT-GH) and the Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU).

The declaration of strike follows governments’ failure to heed to demands from the unions for the payment of their Cost of Living Allowance (CoLA).

In a statement read on behalf of the unions, Thomas Musah, General Secretary of GNAT said they frown on the inequalities in the payment of salaries in the country.

They also declared that they are not ready to rescind their decision until the government pays their CoLA. The statement also contained that workers of the unions were withdrawing their services from all pre-tertiary educational spaces.

Below is the full press statement from the unions.
