Labour Expert, Seth Abloso has described as unfortunate the ongoing strike action by four teacher unions.

A meeting between the leadership of the striking teacher unions and the government to resolve the impasse ended inconclusively.

Seth Abloso speaking on Day Break Upper East Show on A1 Radio said a strike action will not have been the direction to take if the union leaders were properly advised.

“I’ve seen that it is unfortunate that it come to this stage. If the union leaders have been properly advised, a strike will not be the direction to take.”

According to him the current situation is not only with teachers. It affects both public and private sector workers.

“Without doubt things are hard in this country now. Home budgets have been shattered by the economic situation. But you see the situation is not only a situation with teachers; it is all workers both public and private”

Organised Labour should have been the one leading the negotiation with the government considering the current economic situation the country finds itself, Mr Abloso added.

“Organized Labour should have led this to ask for a relief for all workers in Ghana and by that I’ll not propose cost of living allowance. I would strongly recommend a reduction in income tax to free up a lot of money for workers.”

The Labour Expert said the government can do this if it sends a bill under certificate of urgency to parliament.
