The Upper East Regional Director in charge of Food and Agriculture, Francis Ennor has stated that the prices of food prices would continue to soar because of the continuous increase in the prices of fuel.

Mr. Ennor made this statement when he spoke on A1 Radio’s News Link today, Tuesday, August 23, 2022.

“There will be high food prices as long as the economic situation persists. It would reflect on all sectors. If fuel continues to increase, at all cost, food prices would also increase. If it comes down, food prices would also come down,” he said.

Mr. Ennor added that because of the increase in the prices of agricultural inputs, the final commodities produced would increase too. He asked Ghanaians to brace themselves to pay more for food.

He planted a gloomy picture of the possible food insecurity situation in the country next year.

“For next year, there would be a big problem for all of us. Food prices are going to be high. The cost of inputs, that is, weedicides, fertilizers, seeds and everything has increased. Even labour that they [the farmers] use has increased.”

“Food prices would definitely go up because nobody in serious business is after profit and whatever that is added would be passed onto the consumers,” he said.
