The Executive Director for Northern Patriots in Research and Advocacy (NORPRA), Bismark Adongo Ayorogo has stated that politicians have not really fought ‘galamsey’.

“We’re still where we are because the political will is conspicuously missing. All that you hear is nothing but mere talk shops. What they preach in the daytime and what they do at night, is at variant. They preach to us with the Bible in the daytime but at night they’re there with guns and cutlasses and doing the destruction.”

“So they’re not matching their words with the actions. They’re pretending to tell us that they’re fighting the galamsey. The people who are supposed to fight galamsey, they are the people that are deep in it.”

He spoke on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East Show today, September 6, 2022.

“What I have seen is that Ghana has done well in making a lot of noise about ending galamsey and saving our poor environment. But in practical terms, we have done very little. We have not been able to make anything about our talk. So we haven’t done anything at all,” Bismark Ayorogo observed.

He continued that “the daily research and work that is published about the intensity and severity of the effects of climate change on the ordinary person; you’ll get more frustrated and disappointed.”

Mr. Ayorigo was speaking in relation to the announcement about the re-arrest of Aisha Huang, a ‘galamsey’ kingpin within the borders of Ghana. She was deported in December 2019 for engaging in illegal mining.
