Economic hardship: BoG is to blame, Ken Ofori Atta is faultless – Peter Ayinbisa

While 80 NPP MPs, 130 NDC MPs and the greater population of the country, including notable members of the Upper East Regional Communication Team for the NPP, Johnson Ayine and Samuel Akonga, believe Ken Ofori Atta, the Finance Minister, should be sacked immediately for his role in the country’s current econmic crisis, the Regional Communication Director for the NPP, Peter Ayinbisa, believes the Finance Minister should not be blamed for the current economic hardship in the country.

In Mr. Ayinbisa’s opinion, a huge part of the blame should go to the Bank of Ghana for current problems.

Post-COVID, there are a lot of challenges. I know these challenges are across the globe. What is happening in our country sometimes is a bit difficult to comprehend. For me, Peter Ayinbisa, I don’t blame the Finance Minister. I blame, I put the blame squarely, largely on the Bank of Ghana because of their failure to implement certain major policy decisions that we should be able to tame the dollar.”

“Post-COVID, the issues are coming and all countries are facing it,” he said.

While Mr. Ayinbisa insisted that the Finance Minister should not be blamed, he said of the performance of the Finance Minister, “there is room for improvement.”

He continued to say of the economy, “it could have been better but you can’t blame all that on the minister.”

He added, rather shockingly, that “you can blame part of it on the Finance Minister, part of it on Bank of Ghana [and] part of it on us Ghanaian” after saying “for me, Peter Ayinbisa, I don’t blame the Finance Minister. I blame, I put the blame squarely, largely on the Bank of Ghana because of their failure to implement certain major policy decisions that we should be able to tame the dollar.”

Given the daily briefings the president has been receiving, Mr. Ayinbisa believes the President would make the right decision.

  1. It is very clear he lacks knowledge in the area he tried to defend. He doesn’t have to be an economist, he just needs to find time for more reading. He must read a lot. He can’t speak for his party and to issues in his current cognitive state and capacity.
