As part of the International Women’s Day celebration, which is celebrated on March 8 every year globally, the opposition People’s National Convention (PNC) has called on the New Patriotic Party government to use its constitutional mandate to task all employers in the country with establishing centres at their various workplaces to house babies who are still breastfeeding.

International Women’s Day is a global celebration of the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action to accelerate women’s equality. The global theme for this year is “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality”.

A press release signed by Madam Janet Nabla, the general secretary of the PNC, and a gender advocate copied to A1Radioonline.com stated that the move will enable breastfeeding mothers to have full participation at work, which will improve the country’s productivity.

“The PNC wants to use this International Women’s Day Celebration to remind the government to implement the constitutional mandate by ensuring that employers provide centres for children who are still breastfeeding to enable women to realise their full potential at the workplace.”

The statement again asked the government to provide scholarships to the girl child who desire to study computer science or information technology, as the future is predicted to be a digital industrial revolution with an estimated six trillion dollars.
