The question of whether or not there is subversion in the Upper East Music Industry rages on endlessly.
That was the main subject of the conversation on A1 radio’s Entertainment Zone over the weekend. A group of experts, including Kabu Banks (CEO One Love Entertainment) and Ayine Afabla (CEO Up Records), discussed the topic. Mr. Lexis moderated the programme.
A comment by Mr Afabla Ayine didn’t go down well with the reigning Artiste of the Year (AOTY) at the just ended prestigious Upper East Music Awards (UEMA), Pandy Bobby.
Mr. Afabla had earlier in the show asserted that the music industry was not only limited to Bolgatanga and so it is up to all industry players to ensure every part gets a fair share of the cake.
He mentioned names of artistes who are doing well in the region but didn’t mention Pandy Bobby’s name. That in a way infuriated the reigning Artiste of the Year who called into the programme to voice his displeasure.
“Good afternoon, Mr. Lexis, You see, it is people like Afabla Ayine who are sabotaging this industry. How can he mention names of artistes doing well in the region and not mention my name as Artiste of the Year.”
Mr. Afabla, in his response, said, “the fact that I did mention his name is no indication that he is not doing well. I can’t mention everyone’s name.”
Aside winning the Artiste of the Year award, Pandy is still enjoying the fruits of his hit single ‘Bungerigo’ that has made waves for over a year now.
Entertainment Zone is aired every Saturday from 12pm to 2pm with very intriguing issues discussed with the right resources persons in the industry with A1 Radio’s Mr. Lexis.
