The nomination of Dr. Mahamud Bawumia and Alan Kyeremanten as the party’s flagbearer and running mate, respectively, has received the support of Andrew Atariwine, the NPP’s deputy communications director for the Upper East Region. According to Mr. Atarinwini, the decision is sound and could be well received by the party leadership.

“This is not the first time Hon. Kyei Mensah Bonsu is making these comments, and I think that this is his consistent plea and that it is finding favour within the party as well. And I think that having Dr. Mahammod Bawumia as our flag bearer and Alan as a running mate will be a wonderful pair.”

According to Mr. Atariwini, the combination of Vice President Bawumia and former Trade Minister Kyeremanten would be highly marketable and provide a significant boost to the party’s prospects in the upcoming 2024 elections. He further stated that this pairing would inject fresh energy into the ranks of the NPP.

“So that rather becomes a pair for me that is sellable. Blending the two gives us an urge. When that happens, I believe it injects a lot of energy. The north-south equation would have been balanced, the Christian-Muslim equation would have been balanced, and the issue of institutional memory from the economic management team and governance would have also been satisfied. It’s a call I will gladly support.”

Furthermore, Andrew emphasized that the party leadership is working on building consensus within the party in order to build a formidable NPP.

“If you look at the disposition of the rank and file of the party, it is one that shows that the leadership [rank and file] is one that indicates that we are doing everything possible to have a lot of consensus. A lot is being traded, a lot is being discussed, and a lot is being worked out. And I believe that in the end, Ghanaians are going to see a formidable NPP come out of the process.”

These comments were made when he interacted on the Day Break Upper East Show on A1 Radio.
