Augustine Guure, the Secretary of the Talensi Constituency for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has indicated that he is on course to fulfilling many of the targets he set for himself ahead of his election as Constituency Secretary.

Speaking to A1 Radio’s Mark Smith on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East Show today, Tuesday, December 12, 2023, Mr. Guure explained that one of his first moves as Secretary was to set up a functional secretariat where party members can easily reach party executives to have their concerns addressed.

Additionally, Mr. Guure mentioned that he had overseen the distribution of some tech equipment to further the cause of the party.

“The first thing we set up was the administrative wing of the party. Sometime in the past, if you were looking for a party official at the secretariat to address an issue as a party member, there was no one available. Now it is fully open. When we came in, I had to set up the IT unit with most of the equipment they need to operate. I came in with 4 laptops and other tablets to support the communication wing. That was one of the things that wasn’t happening at all because we had an administration that was not known and available.”

Beyond what has been done, Mr. Guure explained that more is being done by his administration to make party folks more comfortable.

“We hope to do more. We are trying to support the education and health of most party members. There are some welfare contributions here and there, for the first time ever. I think it has helped a lot. Also, with the availability of the welfare funds that came in, we taxed the PC aspirants about GHC40,000 or so. It has helped in solving some health and education issues. We have used that to commiserate with party members who have lost loved ones. That used to be difficult in the past.

Meanwhile, the NDC’s Talensi Constituency Secretary, Augustine Guure, is confident that the NDC’s Parliamentary Candidate, Daniel Dung Mahama, will win the 2024 parliamentary election.

Mr. Mahama is expected to win by a convincing margin despite the fact that the NPP’s recently elected Parliamentary Candidate, Robert Alibo, is a generally liked individual whose philanthropy transcends political colors, according to Mr. Guure.

Mr. Guure made these comments when he spoke to Mark Smith on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East Show today, Tuesday, December 12, 2023. He was discussing the new dynamics ahead of the 2024 election based on the NPP’s election of Robert Alibo.

The NDC’s Constituency Secretary warned the party not to be complacent in its attempt to retain the seat.

“We have been scared once before in Talensi when the Paramount Chief today became MP. The reasons that led to that, if we overlook them, they would come back to haunt us. Based on that, I would say that there is a hard knock on our feet, and so we need to move beyond the efforts we were making already. To be frank with you, Alibo, as you know, and even your co-journalists who were present on the day of his election can tell you how he mingles with the constituents. He is popular because of some of his benevolent acts. He is a candidate not to be taken for granted. We are well aware.”
