The Catholic Charismatic Renewal of the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Bolgatanga celebrated the 2023 Christmas with over 300 street children and vulnerable men and women within the Bolgatanga Municipality of the Upper East Region.

Speaking at the program, the leader of the CCR of the Sacred Heart Parish, Daniel Amoyea, said the group deems it very important to celebrate Christmas with these children for the third time because every child deserves to be happy during the Christmas season. According to Mr. Amoyea, the birthday of Jesus Christ is a day for happiness and joy; therefore, the underprivileged children on the street need to also experience the feeling of joy and excitement of the day.

“Christmas on the street because we are trying to bring happiness and joy to those men and women, and particularly the children on the street. Christmas is celebrated mostly where children are happy; children are very gleeful because they will eat and drink, and they will have a lot of things. So we feel like a church or a prayer group in the church, we should extend this joy to children who are less privileged or not fortunate to be in a home where their parents can also provide the rice, the drinks for them. So basically, we are here just to provide a meal and some assorted minerals for them to also enjoy Christmas.”

Aside from feeding the children and their parents with hot meals and assorted soft drinks, the CCR also organized basic medical screenings for them and their parents. The initiative was in collaboration with the Center for Children Development, a child protection organization under Navrongo-Bolgatanga Catholic Diocesan Development (NABOCADO).

The program manager of the Center for Children Development, Amenga-Etego Felix Frederick, underscored the importance of supporting the less privileged and also pledged his organization’s readiness to support some of the children, as they do all the time.

The beneficiaries who spoke to the media also expressed their excitement over the gesture offered to them by the Catholic Charismatic Renewal of the Sacred Heart Cathedral.
