It would be recalled that the Parliamentary Candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Bongo Constituency, Diana Aburiya Asuure, expressed confidence that she will win the seat for the party for the first time on December 7, 2024.

She also expressed confidence that the party would secure at least eight parliamentary seats in the Upper East Region.

Speaking on the Day Break Upper East Show on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, Miss Asuure said the party and the government had done enough for the people of the Upper East Region, while the NDC has relied on the past glory and efforts of the late former president, Jerry John Rawlings.

“Bongo is going to be the first seat they win. I am saying that if the NPP has a seat to count in the region, Bongo is the first seat that they need to count,” she said.

“Do you know the Binduri story? In 2020, when we were doing our campaigns, I was part of the campaign team, and I also went around with the campaign team to organize training for constituency campaign teams. I went around and did a lot. I want to tell you that Binduri was a place that people least expected. It was not even counted as part of the constituencies that we were going to win. Those that people had hope in, it didn’t work that way.”

While her statements were not well received by some residents who commented on the post made by this website, Madam Diana Aburiya Asuure’s position has been strongly backed by the Upper East Regional Communications Director for the NPP, Peter Ayinbisa Ayamga.

Speaking on the same platform on Thursday, February 1, 2024, he explained that the NDC’s candidate, Charles Bawa-Dua, was a newbie and had not garnered the experience to match Madam Aburiya Asuure.

“Diana said if there is one constituency to be won, Bongo is one, and she is right. She was very right in making that assertion. We want to dare the NDC to prove us wrong. We would not leave any stones unturned. We are going all out and work hard and do everything legally possible to ensure we secure victory for Diana. We are going to do that for the first time,” he said.

“They [the NDC] should just be there dreaming, tickling themselves and laughing, thinking that Bongo is a safe seat for them. Lawyer knows what the grounds are. He’s been part of the NDC right from the beginning but he is a newbie at this level. Diana gave it a shot in 2012 and in 2012 her performance was good,” he added.
