Garu DCE supported NDC members to win against NPP members at DLE – Constituency Executives allege

Constituency Executives for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Garu have expressed strong resentment against certain actions of the DCE for the area, Osman Musah. In a statement signed by the constituency chairman, Dan Michael Abugri, the constituency executives alleged that the DCE had begun courting some disaffection against the party.

Using the district-level election as an example, the DCE is alleged to have sponsored supposed NDC members against supposed NPP members.

“Since the Hon. DCE lost the just-ended orphan constituency primaries, his key supporters have been cited on the Constituency NPP WhatsApp platform, raising comments that will further mar the fortunes of the party for the 2024 elections,” portions of the statement read.

“It was also noted that all party loyalists who supported the current parliamentary candidate during the primaries and filed to contest the just-ended December district-level elections were vehemently opposed by the DCE and some party members. Support such as streetlight bulbs and football jerseys was given to the supposed NDC contestants to campaign against NPP sympathizers who contested. These were evident in the Kugri-Natinga, Denugu, Farfar-Bantafarugu, and Zaare electoral areas. Such behaviors accounted for us losing a lot of the seats against the NDC as projected,” the statement added.

Additionally, the constituency executives alleged that the DCE has refused to pay contractors what is due to them.

“Party faithful who were engaged during his predecessor’s era under the District Assembly Common Fund projects are yet to be sorted out. Several requests and meetings with him proved futile. This has impacted negatively on party members who are involved. We are all aware that the flow of funds is not as usual due to the difficulties the country is facing from the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war. However, the little that comes is rather channeled into other activities. We therefore suspect foul play toward the fortunes of our dear party,” the statement concluded.

The DCE is yet to respond to the allegations.

Meanwhile, the DCEs for Bawku West and Bolgatanga East District have been removed from office.
