The Navrongo Youth Sports Centre has been ravaged by fire. Reports indicate that the fire started on Sunday, February 18th, 2024.

When Peter Wedam, a journalist, spoke to Mark Smith on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East Show today, February 21st, 2024, he said the entire green field had burned and turned to ash.

According to the report, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) was called to quench the fire. While the GNFS was able to bring the fire under control, in their absence, the fire reignited. A second call was made to them, but they couldn’t honor that call.

It is currently unclear what the cause of the fire is. According to reports, the grass on the field has been completely burned. Some seats in the stands have also been burned. A storeroom containing some equipment is also said to have been burned. Additionally, some building materials have been lost to the fire.

The MCE for Kassena Nankana Municipality, Joseph Adongo, said at the time of filing this report that he was still gathering information about the incident.

More soon.
