Ing. Filson Awankua, a professional civil engineer from the Upper East Region, was inducted into full professional membership at the Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE) on Thursday, February 22nd, 2024.
The membership, he said, serves as a pivotal step in elevating his professional standing and furthering his commitment to excellence in his craft.
The Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE), founded in 1968, is an autonomous professional body with no political affiliation. It derives its authority from the Engineering Council Act 2011, Act 819, and the Professional Bodies Registration Decree NRCD143 of 1973.
Speaking to A1 Radio after the induction, Ing. Awankua expressed his appreciation for the prestigious membership, emphasizing his dedication to enhancing his contributions to the field of engineering.
Ing. Awankua further shared his plans to embark on an advocacy campaign aimed at enlightening both the public and Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MDCs) on the intricacies of land acquisitions and subsequent development in the region. He underscored the importance of strategic planning for the future growth and sustainability of the region.
“The membership at GhIE comes at a crucial point in my career. It serves as a platform for continuous improvement and learning. I am eager to leverage this opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the engineering community and, in particular, address critical issues related to land acquisition and development in our region,” stated Ing. Awankua.
The President of GhIE, Ing. Kwabena Bempong, who conducted the induction, commended Ing. Awankua for his dedication and contributions to the engineering field. Ing. Bempong therefore expressed confidence in Ing. Awankua’s ability to make a meaningful impact, not only as a professional engineer but also as an advocate for responsible and sustainable development practices.
