The Upper East Regional Dialysis Centre is expected to be operational by the second week of March 2024 if the unit receives consumables by the close of the week.

This is according to the lead convenor for the establishment of a dialysis centre in the Upper East Region, Dr. Emmanuel Akatibo.

Once the facility takes delivery of the consumables, the team running the facility would be able to define the costs of treatment. Then, the facility can be opened for treatment.

He made these comments when he spoke to A1 Radio’s Mark Smith on the Day Break Upper East Show today, Thursday, February 29, 2024.

Additionally, the cost of further expansion work and the purchase of additional machines have been forwarded to an unnamed organization that intends to support the dialysis centre.

“We are following up with them [the organization] with the cost of some of the things they may want to purchase for us or for some items, they would give us the money to purchase them. Be that as it may, we decided that we would move forward with starting the unit if we get the consumables. We are expecting to receive the consumables this week. If we do so, then we should expect that by the second week of March, we should be able to start running the unit,” he said.

Meanwhile, Dr. Akatibo explained that there is supposed to be refresher training for the health workers expected to run the facility. Additionally, some of the machines installed at the facility are going to be serviced one final time before use.
