John Tia reported dead

Politician John Tia has been reported dead. Reports suggest that the former legislator returned from Accra on Thursday, hale and hearty. It is reported that he attended a funeral in Bolgatanga, the Upper East Regional capital, and drove back home.

Later during the night, he complained of not feeling well, was taken to the East Side Hospital, and passed away in the early hours of today, Sunday, March 24, 2024.

John Tia was born on September 23, 1954. He was a former Minister for Information and a one-time Majority Leader in Parliament.

He was the Member of Parliament for Talensi from January 7, 1993, to 2012. He was 69 years old.

Mr Tia became the Press Secretary of the Upper East Regional Secretariat of Peoples Defence Committees/Workers Defence Committees set up by the Provisional National Defence Council military government in 1982

He was also a member of the ECOWAS Parliament. In 2009, he was appointed by President Mills as Minister for Information. In 2012, he lost his bid to retain the Talensi seat. In 2016 he announced his decision to no longer contest in the parliamentary elections.
