The MCE for Bolgatanga, Rex Asanga, who has failed twice in his attempt to become a Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central, has appealed to constituents to vote for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate, Elvis Atia Awonekai.

Speaking on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East Show, Mr. Asanga explained that Mr. Awonekai has roots within the constituency and hoped that this would be enough to win him the seat on behalf of the party.

“This is a young person, energetic, and I think is someone who has roots and knows the problems and dynamics in the communities, and I believe that the people of Bolga would try and give him the opportunity to lead. If you don’t test someone, you would not know what they are made of. We have tested Isaac Adongo, and we know what he can do,” he said.

Mr. Asanga suggested that the MP, Isaac Adongo, had failed to use the influence and favor he had managed to curry at the national level to lobby for development.

The MCE also suggested that the MP has failed to use his office to partner with private organizations and development partners in support of his constituency.

“I think he could do a lot more, especially being the figure that he is at the national level. One would have thought that he would be lobbying for projects and all that. It appears that the common fund projects are all he’s doing, but he could have been really doing a lot more.”

“Me, as MCE, if I go to an embassy and say I want to see an ambassador, they won’t mind me. They would send their secretary to come and meet me. But if the MP, in the stature of Isaac Adongo, and also coming from Bolga, the regional capital, and you go and say that you want to see the Chinese Ambassador, and that your children don’t have desks to sit on, you will be listened to,” he said.

Mr. Asanga compared and mentioned the MP for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, saying, “He does that, and then they will give him a truck full of items. Whether they are medical supplies or furniture, and these go into his constituency. We really have a problem.”
