Sellas-Tetteh1Ghana U20 coach Sellas Tetteh claims he selected the best players available to him for the 2013 FIFA U20 World Cup despite the obvious unimpressive showing.

The former Rwandan coach, who won the 2009 edition of the competition, has supervised Ghana’s worst ever performance in all six appearances of the competition losing both of their opening games against Spain and France.

Chelsea reserves squad captain Daniel Pappoe was withdrawn late with reported swollen knee while local fans have also questioned the 56-year-old’s decision to leave out Hearts of Oak starlet Oleenu Ashitey.

Arsenal reserves squad member Zak Ansah who trained with the team in Accra was also dropped with a couple of foreign-based talents including Yussif Raman Chibsah, Genoa starlet Ahmed Said and Inter Milan defender Isaac Donkor all overlooked.

But Tetteh insists he selected the best players available to him.

“These are the best players we have and I selected the best for the tournament,” he told Asempa FM’s Kwame Dwomo-Agyemang.

Ghana is hoping to progress to the knock round of the tournament after beating the United States of America 4-1 on Thursday.
