The Millar Institute for Transdisciplinary and Development Studies is set to launch a program in Contemporary Development Communication, designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge required to excel in both traditional and digital media environments.

Professor David Millar, founder of the Institute, explained that the program will offer advanced degrees, including Master’s and Ph.D. options. The curriculum will combine traditional principles of development communication with modern techniques, featuring courses on artificial intelligence and other cutting-edge communication tools.

Professor Millar highlighted that the term “contemporary” in the program’s title reflects the Institute’s dedication to staying ahead of emerging trends and technologies in the communication field.

“Instead of calling it development communication, I don’t like being very conventional, so I added ‘contemporary’ to it. It’s contemporary development communication. Contemporary because we have also added courses on AI and all those advanced modes of communication.”

The program is expected to commence early next year, with accreditation processes set to be finalized once the year’s events conclude. As an open university, the Millar Institute has the flexibility to launch new programs at any time without adhering to a traditional academic calendar.

“We are just waiting for all the events to end the year. Early next year, we’ll make the payments, they’ll come and do the accreditations, and then we’ll start. Because we are an open university, we can start at any time. I don’t have to wait for an academic year to begin.”

The program represents the Institute’s commitment to innovation in education, providing students with a unique blend of traditional and contemporary communication strategies to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving world.
