The Executive Secretary of the Commercial Quarry Operators’ Association (CoQOA), Ms. Georgina Dziwornu, has accused successive governments of deliberately sidelining the quarry industry in critical policy discussions, despite its pivotal role in national development.

Speaking at a joint workshop with the Minerals Commission and other stakeholders in Bolgatanga, Ms. Dziwornu emphasized that the sector’s exclusion from dialogues on natural resources is unjust, given its indispensable contribution to infrastructure and economic growth.

“It is unfair to blacklist the quarry industry when it comes to national discussions on natural resources. Without us, the nation cannot function properly,” she asserted.

Ms. Dziwornu, who assumed her role in 2020, urged members to foster unity and actively reshape public perception, which often labels quarry operators as “dust makers and land destroyers.”

The workshop, which focused on best practices in quarry management, also addressed the need for improved regulatory compliance and environmental stewardship.

Ms. Dziwornu called on the current administration to rectify the long-standing neglect of the sector, stressing that quarry products are essential for construction, roads, and other critical infrastructure.

Echoing her sentiments, the Northern Sector Chairman of CoQOA, Iddrisu Billey Yaldzia, urged operators to uphold corporate social responsibility and ethical standards.

“We must not neglect our obligations to host communities while maintaining high operational integrity,” he stated.
