GFAHaving met certain criteria and successfully completed other FIFA Goal Projects, a new project, Goal V, will start this year for the Ghana Football Association.

The Goal V Project will see Ghana benefit from the construction of a water-base artificial turf pitch at its technical centre, the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.

The project, which will cost $688,000 and approved last year by FIFA will be completed in six months time.

According to FIFA Development Officer in Charge of West Africa, Sampon Kablan, the project is geared at improving the GFA’s football facilities for national teams, enabling more frequent and sustained training for elite, youth and women, reducing maintenance costs, mainly water and mowing and enabling players to get accustomed to football turf surfaces.

The Goal Programme allows each member association of FIFA to receive funding for football development projects that respond to the special needs of their national associations.

Ghana’s start to the development of the technical centre at Prampram was built with funding from the Goal I Project which was a grant of $400,000 whiles the funds for Goal II Project was invested in the House of Football – the headquarters of the Ghana Football Association in Accra.

The Goal III Project is a multi-purpose dining and conference facility plus kitchen with fourth Goal project, being the construction of a football academy.

The FIFA Goal IV Project which cost US$ 403,000 for the construction of a football academy has learning centres, pitches and offices for administrative personnel.
