The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service in the Upper East Region has arrested two persons suspected to have been involved in fake production of motorbike and car number plates, Ghanaian traveling passports and driving licenses.
Awal Mohammed 29 and Moro Bukari, 52, were arrested in their hideouts at Saboo Zongo, a suburb of Kumasi on Monday.
One other person believed to be the owner of HFC Embossment Company, the company at the centre of the illegal business is on the run.
Briefing the media Tuesday August 1, Mutawakiliu Abdulai, acting Upper East Regional director for the Driver Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) said the arrest followed a recent operation by his outfit in collaboration with the police to clamp down on unregistered motorbikes and cars in the region.
He further revealed that a large number of the number plates were produced in 2015, 2016 and 2017, which could be found in every corner of the country.
