BONABOTO, a non-political, non-religious development-oriented association of like-minded people who have the singular interest of seeing to the holistic development of the BONABOTO area in particular, and Ghana in general has exposed ignorant National Organiser of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Kofi Adams for lying to the people of the Upper East region.
The National Organiser of the National Democratic Congress in an interview with A1 Radio indicated that the NDC during its tenure did not promise the people of the Upper East region a new hospital but rather promised to upgrade the existing Bolgatanga hospital into a Regional hospital unlike they have done in other parts of the country where they built separate hospitals to serve as regional hospitals in those regions.
But speaking to A1 Radio’s Ibrahim Aziz, the Public Relations Officer for BONABOTO, Stanley Abopam indicated that the National Organiser lied.
According to him, “we met with the then Vice President, John Dramani Mahama and told him that for them to break down this hospital for then to build a new one we will not agree because same is not done in other place. The then Vice President, John Dramani Mahama indicated that the project at the Bolgatanga Municipal hospital was not an entirely government funded project but rather a bided project which funds was secured by Jerry John Rawlings in 1998 but actually taken up by the NPP government. We know that the money went into hibernation and it took a Deputy Finance Minister to get the money for the project to start”.
He indicated that the then Vice President John Dramani Mahama said ” I will plead with you to plead with the Chiefs and people of the region to allow this project go on whiles you look for a land where I the Vice President will ensure you get a Regional Hospital as you have demanded. It is right because that is what is happening everywhere and you should not be an exception and that is what triggered us into looking for the land”.
He said they visited the Sirigu Chief who offered them the land for the Regional Hospital in the company of Mark Woyongo who promised to communicate with the Vice President then, John Mahama but nothing was done since then.
He indicated that the President John Dramni Mahama said the current Central Hospital was going to be a Municipal Hospital and promised to build an ultra modern regional hospital for the people of Upper East region.
Stanley Abopam questioned whether “Kofi Adams did not educate himself before getting onto a radio station to blame people as getting ignorant. In September2016, when Mahama came to inspect progress of work, he, John Mahama said we should give him time and government was committed building an ultramodern regional hospital for the people of the Upper East region. So from whose authority was my ignorant brother Kofi Adams speaking on? What did he mean by the answer he gave. He thinks the people of this region can be taken for granted? We can read in between the lines”.
