Upper East Regional Minister Bemoans the Continuous Fall of BECE Performance in the Region as he Addressed 6th March Parade

Out-going Upper East Regional Minister, Alhaji Limuna Mohammed Muniru has expressed worry about the continuous decline in the performance of pupils at the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the region.  He said the results of the BECE in the region was an embarrassment and could not be glossed over without measures being put in place to reverse the trend.

The Minister was speaking at the Regional Celebration of Ghana’s 57th independence anniversary which had a national theme: “Building a better and prosperous Ghana through patriotism and national unity”. Alhaji Mohammed-Muniru said the region was regarded as one of the poorest as it lacked basic resources and facilities, adding that a major factor that could help break the chain of poverty in the region was education.

On regional and national unity, Alhaji Mohammed-Muniru called on the citizenry to be more vigilant and committed to promoting patriotism and imbibe in them a sense of national unity in order to build a better and prosperous nation.

Gregory Agana Amoah, Bolgatanga Municipal Director of Education who read a speech for the Regional Director of Education,  Paul Apanga called on teachers and students to emulate the noble patriotic actions of the country’s forbearers in the struggle for independence.

In all about 216 men and women drown from six contingents from the security services including the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana Immigration Service, the Ghana National Fire Service and the Ghana Revenue Authority of the Customs Division took part in the parade.

In addition, some 2,700 pupils and students from 32 primary schools, 31 Junior High Schools and 12 Senior High Schools also took part in the parade which lasted barely two hours.
